This wearable instrument, based on the principles of circuit bending, plays with the current design trend in which technology is incorporated into fabrics as invisibly and flexibly as possible. This dress completely reverses that trend since the aesthetics of the dress is the technology that normally is hidden. It is the unwearability of the dress that defines the performance. The closeness of the technology forces the body into new positions. There are twelve coils incorporated into the dress, each of which is played by connecting them with one another through copper finger plates. In this way new sounds are created. The composition consists of a choreography for the fingers that slowly explore the dress. This leads to an intimate yet crackling performance.
The Circuit Dress performance has been featured at the 5 Days Off Festival icw Joris Strijbos (Amsterdam), TodaysArt festival and the E-Pulse festival. And showcased at the exhibition “Future Textiles” in Denmark, “Pretty Smart Textiles” at the Nutshuis, The Hague and the 5 Days Off Festival in Amsterdam, where it was part of the “Fashionable Technology” exhibition and most recently at the “TechnoSensual” exhibition in Quartier 21, in Vienna, Austria.

Dit draagbare instrument, wat gebaseerd is op de principes van circuit bending, speelt met de huidige designtrend waarin technologie zo flexibel en onzichtbaar mogelijk in de textiel moet worden verwerkt. In deze jurk wordt dit gegeven omgedraaid en bestaat de esthetiek van de jurk juist uit deze normaal verborgen technologie. Het is de ‘ondraagbaarheid’ van de jurk die de performance bepaald; de nabijheid van de technologie dwingt het lichaam tot nieuwe houdingen. Er zijn twaalf spoelen verwerkt in de jurk die bespeelbaar zijn door ze met koperen vingerplaatjes met elkaar te verbinden, hierdoor worden nieuwe geluiden gecreëerd. De compositie bestaat uit een choreografie voor de vingers welke langzaam de jurk verkennen, wat leidt tot een intieme doch krakende performance.
Als performance is de Circuit Dress vertoond op het E-Pulse Festival, TodaysArt festival en het 5 Days Off Festival (ism Joris Strijbos). Verder is de jurk ook opgenomen in de exposities “Fashionable Technology” van 5 Days Off (Amsterdam), “Pretty Smart Textiles” in het Nutshuis, Den Haag en meest recentelijk in de exposities “TechnoSensual” in Quartier 21 in Oostenrijk & ”Future Textiles” in Denemarken.
